2005 Game Summaries Elite World Series Championship Travelers 2, Texas Red Apaches 1 (62-13) After spotting the Red Apaches a 1-0 lead in the first, the Travelers rallied to take the lead for good with two runs in the fourth. Chance Deason doubled, Luke Yost tripled and Levi Rhoades added a sacrifice fly to spark the uprising. Deason and Keith McInnerney ended with two hits each. Mercer was sensational again, scattering six hits while striking out three for the pitching win, taking tournament MVP honors along with Rebel Ridling. Travelers 9, Texas Red Apaches 0 (61-13) Jordy Mercer needed just 48 pitches, allowing two hits in the run rule victory. The Travelers exploded for five runs in the second to take command. Rebel Ridling, Shea Brown and Luke Yost all doubled while Chance Deason chipped in a triple in the frame. Ridling finished with three hits, including two doubles, and drove in four. Yost added a pair of doubles and Brown also contributed two hits. Travelers 8, New Braunfels, TX 5 (60-13) Toby Davis scattered three hits and struck out five to pick up the pitching win with four strong innings of relief. Travelers broke a 4-4 deadlock with four runs in the fourth. Levi Rhoades and Davis sparked the attack with triples, Chance Deason added a two-run double and Jeff Breedlove a RBI single. Davis, Deason and Breedlove totaled two hits apiece. Texas Red Apaches 5, Travelers 4 (59-13) Missed opportunities cost the Travelers as they fell into the tournament loser's bracket. Chance Deason tossed four and two-third scoreless frames of relief but the Travelers couldn't overcome a five-run deficit. Rebel Ridling, Chance Deason and Shea Brown ended with two hits apiece. Travelers 10, Texas Blue Apaches 3 (59-12) Nate Hammons fired a complete game, scattering eight hits while striking out 11. The Travelers broke on top with Rebel Ridling's two-run homer in the first and added six more runs in the second. Levi Rhoades led the offense with three hits while Ridling added two hits and three RBIs. Travelers 9, San Antonio Phantoms 1 (58-12) The Travelers stayed unbeaten in World Series play behind a one-hit pitching effort from Jordy Mercer. Three runs in the first inning, including RBI hits from Luke Yost and Drew Wells. Rebel Ridling's solo homer in the fifth sparked a four-run outburst that ended it early on the run rule. Keith McInnerney had two hits and two RBIs to lead the offense. Travelers 5, Bourne Aggies 1 (57-12) Tomas Cruz fired a complete game five-hitter, striking out three and walking none. Back-to-back doubles from Levi Rhoades and Jeff Breedlove in the second gave the Travelers the lead for good. Chance Deason worked five and one-third strong innings to pick up his 10th win of the season. Jordy Mercer posted four hits, including a double, two RBIs and three runs scored to lead the attack. Levi Rhoades added three hits, including a double, and drove in three runs as well. Travelers 6, New Braunfels, TX 4 (55-12) The Travelers survived a first round scare, thanks to a game-ending double play with the bases loaded in the seventh. Levi Rhoades worked the first four stanzas for the pitching win but it was Toby Davis that got the key out after two walks in the final frame. After spotting the Texas squad a 2-0 lead, the Travelers tied it on RBI singles from Shea Brown and Jordy Mercer in the second and took the lead for good with three runs an inning later. Brown led the offensive attack with two hits, two RBIs and a run scored. Travelers 3, Nebraska Sluggers 2 (54-12) Duane Betts came through with a solid start and Chance Deason worked one and two-third scoreless frames of relief in the rain-shortened contest that was stopped in the sixth. The Travelers scored single runs in the first, third and fourth, cashing in RBI hits from Luke Yost, Drew Wells and Chance Deason. Kansas City Sluggers 4, Travelers 3 (53-12) The Travelers were a little slow out of the gate in the early 9 a.m. start, managing just seven hits, three of which came in a three-run third that tied the game. Rebel Ridling's three-run homer, his 15th of the season, did most of the damage. The Sluggers broke the tie with a fifth inning run thanks to a double and two errors. Travelers 2, Midwest Nationals 0 (53-11) Levi Rhoades fired a complete game shutout, scattering six hits while striking out six in the mound masterpiece. The Travelers got on the board in the third when Jeff Breedlove drew a walk and scored on a one out single by Jordy Mercer. Mercer added a double in the sixth and raced home on a Rebel Ridling double for the final run of the game. Travelers 8, Baseball Prospects of Tulsa 5 (52-11) Brent Miller provided five and one-third stellar innings of relief as the Travelers rallied from an early deficit. Trailing 3-0 in the second, Luke Yost got the comeback going with a leadoff single and scored with two out. He then added a leadoff double in the fourth ahead of Toby Davis' three-run triple to take the lead for good. Yost finished three for three with two doubles and three runs scored. Davis chipped in a pair of hits. Travelers 3, Oklahoma Premier School 1 (51-11) Tomas Cruz tossed a five-hit complete game, allowing just one unearned run while fanning eight batters. The Travelers rallied from a 1-0 deficit in the fourth when Chance Deason doubled and scored on a Drew Wells hit. Two runs in the sixth produced the final difference after Jeff Breedlove doubled with one away and scored on a Shea Brown single. Brown also scored on Rebel Ridling's sacrifice fly. Route 66 Classic Championship Travelers 5, Topeka Stars 2 (50-11) Jordy Mercer yielded only two unearned runs on three hits, striking out 10 in a complete game effort. Luke Yost spearheaded the Traveler offense with a pair of solo homers and a triple. Toby Davis also added a solo home run. Travelers 11, Burkburnett Blacksox 0 (49-11) Levi Rhoades allowed two hits to start the game and then retired the Blacksox quietly the rest of the way, needing just 54 pitches. The Travelers took the lead for good with three runs in the third, sparked by a Chance Deason two-run double. Deason added another two-run double to highlight a five-run fourth. Deason finished with three hits, including a triple, two doubles and four RBIs. Luke Yost and Jordy Mercer chipped in two hits each, including doubles, and two RBIs. Jeff Breedlove also chipped in a pair of hits. Travelers 2, Ace Baseball Academy 1 (48-11) Jason Stover fired a complete game, scattering five hits to go with seven strikeouts. The Travelers took the early lead with back-to-back doubles from Jordy Mercer and Rebel Ridling in the first and then took the lead for good when Levi Rhoades singled and scored in the fifth. Travelers 8, Edmond Memorial 0 (47-11) Jordy Mercer and Toby Davis combined on a four-hit shutout. The Travelers opened things up with three runs in the second and ended it early with five in the third. Rebel Ridling led the offense with three hits and run batted in. Travelers 9, Wichita Wolverines 1 (46-10) Chance Deason posted the complete game victory, scattering five hits while fanning six. The Travelers led 3-1 after five before breaking things open with six runs on six hits in the sixth stanza. Drew Wells ended with three hits, including a double and two RBIs. Luke Yost had two hits and drove in a pair while Rebel Ridling also added two hits and three runs scored. Shea Brown finished with a double and two RBIs. Travelers 15, Woodward Boomers 2 (45-10) Mike Cullen fired a three-hit complete game, striking out six for the win. Jordy Mercer, Cody Cole and Brent Miller ended with two hits apiece in the offensive attack. Rebel Ridling blasted a home run and drove in two. Travelers 6, Lawton 3 (44-10) Tomas Cruz picked up the pitching victory, carrying a no-hitter through five innings. The Traveler offense notched 10 hits, led by two each from Jordy Mercer, Joe Halley and Cody Cole. Travelers 14, El Reno Indians 5 (40-8) The Travelers exploded offensively to break open a tight game after three innings. Jordy Mercer and Joe Halley contributed three hits apiece to spark the attack. Brent Miller pitched four and one-third innings for the victory. Travelers 7, Midwest City Bandits 0 (39-8) Tomas Cruz fired a four-hit shutout, striking out four to help push the current Traveler win streak to 16 games. It was a 1-0 game until the fifth when the Travelers exploded for six runs on six hits to put it away. Shea Brown opened with a single and Toby Davis doubled before both scored on a single from Rebel Ridling. Luke Yost added a double ahead of two-run doubles from Drew Wells and Jared Broadbent. The Travelers trailed 2-0 after three stanzas but cut the lead in half in the fourth on back-to-back doubles from Jordy Mercer and Ridling. Toby Davis led off the fifth with a pinch hit double and scored on Luke Yost's sacrifice fly to tie the game. Jason Stover allowed just three hits over the first five innings, striking out six. Nate Hammons picked up the win with three scoreless frames of relief, allowing just one hit and striking out six. Travelers 7, Midwest City Bandits 3 (37-8) A four-run second inning erased an early deficit as the Travelers won their 14th straight contest. Mike Cullen yielded six hits over the first four innings to get pitching win. Old South Plains Classic Championship Travelers 13, Edmond Stars 3 (36-8) The Travelers finished off a perfect 9-0 weekend, defeating the powerful Stars for the second time in the tournament while setting team history in the process. They became the first squad in the club's illustrious 40-plus year history to win as many as eight games without a loss en route to a tournament title and in the process secured their 13th straight win. Levi Rhoades tossed three and one-third innings to get the win, but it was the Traveler offense that was the story. Jordy Mercer and Jared Broadbent ended with two hits apiece. Travelers 5, Midwest City Outlaws 4 (35-8) Chance Deason and Nate Hammons combined for 10 strikeouts, no walks and scattering nine hits in pitching the Travelers to the finals. Deason held the Outlaws in check, yielding four runs through five innings, to notch the victory. Hammons allowed just one single over the final two stanzas for his fifth save in just eight days. Rhoades finished with a pair of hits to lead the attack. Travelers 8, Burkburnett Blacksox 4 (34-8) Luke Yost's RBI double got the offense rolling and Drew Wells added a two-run double, the first of his two doubles on the night. The Traveler offense finished with 12 hits, led by two each from Toby Davis, Yost, Wells and a three for three effort from Levi Rhoades. Jordy Mercer gutted through seven innings on the mound, scattering seven hits for the complete game victory. Travelers 7, Topeka Stars 5 (33-8) Nate Hammons fired two strong innings of relief, allowing just one hit to pick up the pitching victory. The Traveler offense broke a 5-5 deadlock in the seventh when Levi Rhoades singled and rode home on a triple by Jordy Mercer. Rebel Ridling added a run-scoring single in the frame as well. Ridling led the way with three hits, including a pair of doubles. Mercer and Rhoades chipped in two hits, as did Luke Yost, who added a home run and three RBIs. Travelers 4, Topeka Stars 3 (32-8) After spotting the Stars a 3-0 lead in the first, the Travelers battled back for the victory. The Travelers took the lead for good in the top of the seventh as Drew Wells opened the frame with a single and rode to third on back-to-back Topeka errors. Travelers 8, Edmond Stars 5 (30-8) The Stars had lost just twice all season but the Travelers came up with clutch hit and solid pitching for the victory. Levi Rhoades worked five strong frames in the start, yielding two unearned runs on just two hits. Nate Hammons pitching the final inning and a third for his third save. Clinging to a 4-3 lead in the sixth, the Travelers broke it open with four runs, keyed by a three-run double from Drew Wells. Shea Brown also contributed a RBI single in the frame. Jordy Mercer and Rebel Ridling contributed solo home runs as Ridling and Wells led the attack with two hits apiece. Travelers 3, Edmond Memorial 1 (9 Innings) (29-8) It took a pair of extra innings before the Travelers took the lead for good on run-scoring hits by Toby Davis and Rebel Ridling. Tomas Cruz was stellar, yielding just four hits in five and one-third innings in the mound start but didn't figure in the decision. Chance Deason tossed three and two-third frames of one-hit relief, striking out five, to notch his second win of the day. Deason and Ridling ended with two hits apiece. Travelers 17, Fort Worth Drillers 9 (28-8) The Travelers made the most of 13 hits, ending the contest early on the run rule after plating seven runs in the first inning. Rebel Ridling led the way with a double, home run and three RBIs. Levi Rhoades also had a double, home run and drove in a pair. Jeff Breedlove contributed two hits as did Duane Betts. Chance Deason worked two innings, allowing one hit while fanning four to pick up the victory. Travelers 8, Burkburnett Connie Mack 0 (27-8) Jordy Mercer scattered five hits in a five-inning shutout to notch the mound victory. The Sentinel product finished with three hits, including a double, triple and home run while driving in three runs. Luke Yost also added three hits with a single, double and triple as well as three RBIs. Chance Deason contributed a single and double and three RBIs. Levi Rhoades worked four innings on the mound, scattering four hits. Travelers 8, Arlington Colt 45s 4 (24-8) After trailing 2-1 through two innings, the Travelers exploded for four runs on four hits in the third to take command. Rebel Ridling's three-run homer keyed the uprising as the Travelers also added doubles by Toby Davis and Luke Yost. Jordy Mercer's RBI double in the third broke a scoreless deadlock before the Traveler bats exploded for eight runs in the fourth to take command. Travelers 17, Kansas City Sluggers 8 (22-7) The Traveler offense erupts for 17 hits and seven home runs. Luke Yost led the way with four hits, including a double, home run and two RBIs. Rebel Ridling added a pair of homers and a double while driving in five. Jeff Breedlove also chipped in two home runs and a double as well as four runs batted in. Drew Wells tossed in two hits, including a home run, and Toby Davis also homered and drove in a pair. Travelers 11, Kansas City Sluggers 17s 1 (21-7) Levi Rhoades fired a complete game five-hitter. The Travelers offense exploded for 14 hits, sparked by Drew Wells' two-run homer in the second. Pueblo, CO 12, Travelers 0 (20-7) A bit out of gas after three straight gutwrenching nailbiters, the Travelers drop the final tournament game in consolation play. Cody Cole posted the lone hit of the game. Travelers 11, Merced, California 10 (8 Innings) (20-6) A fatigued Traveler squad came from behind to force extra innings and then won it in the eighth. Mike Cullen tossed a scoreless bottom of the eighth for the win in relief. Drew Wells totaled four hits and plated four runs. Cherry Creek, CO 10, Travelers 9 (10 Innings) (19-6) Despite a solid starting effort from Jordy Mercer on the mound, the Travelers drop a three and a half hour marathon. Drew Wells was sensational offensively with five hits, including a pair of doubles and five RBIs. Las Vegas, NV 6, Travelers 5 (19-5) The Travelers sufferered their first tournament loss, watching Las Vegas rally from an early 4-0 deficit. Jeff Breedlove smacked a two-run single and Drew Wells added a two-run double for the early advantage. Rebel Ridling also added a run-scoring double. Chance Deason worked six strong innings but was hampered by a pair of controversial calls that kept the Vegas comeback alive. Travelers 7, Monarch, CO 6 (19-4) The Travelers shook off a pesky Monarch squad, claiming the lead for good with Shea Brown's two-run single in the fourth. Levi Rhoades picked up the pitching win with two and one-third innings of middle relief before Chance Deason came on to slam the door for the save, tossing the final inning and two thirds. Jordy Mercer belted a pair of doubles and drove in a run. Travelers 8, Hays, Kansas 0 (18-4) Nate Hammons tossed a four-hit shutout, striking out seven as the Travelers opened the Tony Andenucio Classic. Drew Wells led the offensive charge with a pair of hits, including a triple, and three RBIs. Jeff Breedlove belted a first-inning home run. Traveler Shootout Championship Travelers 5, Dallas Titans 3 (17-4) The Traveler offense got off to a fast start with three runs in the first stanza and then held off the Titans in the rain-shortened Traveler finale. Drew Wells led the offensive attack with a pair of hits, including a double, and drove in three runs. Chance Deason scattered six hits over five innings for the pitching win. Travelers 5, Denver Burt Chevrolet 4 (16-4) Trailing 4-2 after five innings, the Travelers plated a run in the sixth and two in the seventh for the win. Jeff Breedlove smashed a triple off the wall to score Luke Yost with the tying run and then raced home on a throwing error for what proved to be the game-winner. Levi Rhoades was stellar with 2 2/3 scoreless innings of mound relief to notch the win. Travelers 10, OKC Falcons 0 (15-4) The Travelers raced to 10 runs on eight hits in the first four innings. Rebel Ridling led the way with a single, double and home run as well as two RBIs. Drew Wells chipped in a single, triple and two RBIs. Jordy Mercer allowed just one hit over the first three innings. Travelers 8, El Reno 0 (14-4) Duane Betts twirled a two-hit complete game shutout in his first Traveler start and finished with eight strikeouts. McKinney Marshals 10, Travelers 8 (5-3) McKinney plated six runs in the bottom of the seventh to erase an 8-4 Traveler advantage. Rebel Ridling hit for the cycle and then some, finishing with a single, two doubles, a triple and two-run homer in the seventh. He drove in four and scored three times. Enid 16, Travelers 8 (3-2) The Travelers saw an 8-6 fifth-inning lead slip away as Enid rallied with 10 runs in the final two stanzas. Travelers 12, Midwest City Bandits 8 (3-1) The Travelers finally got the offense untracked, plating 11 runs in the final three innings for the victory. Canadian County Boomers 5, Travelers 4 (2-1) The Travelers wasted an outstanding start by Tomas Cruz, falling to the Boomers on an eighth-inning walkoff home run. Drew Wells had three hits and Jared Broadbent chipped in two hits and two RBIs. Travelers 8, Edmond Memorial 0 (2-0) Brent Miller fired a three-hit complete game shutout, striking out six. Cody Cole had three hits, scored a run and drove in a run. Travelers 11, Byng Majors 10 (1-0) The Travelers built an 11-4 lead in the sixth but needed Brent Miller's game-ending strikeout to preserve the victory. Travelers plated four runs in the third, sparked by RBI hits from Toby Davis, Jeff Breedlove and Tim Smith to take the lead. |
