(June 1, 2013) - The 2013 Travelers Redneck Raffle is underway as of June 1, 2013. The players and coaches will be selling chances for over $6,000 worth of prizes (see graphic above). There will only be 200 chances sold and eight winners will be chosen at random. That means every ticket holder has a 1-in-25 chance of winning. We appreciate all those who enter our raffle, which is the primary fundraiser for the 2013 team. Your support with a $100 donation is greatly appreciated. Outside of our winning tradition, the Oklahoma Travelers baseball team has also always prided itself on the ability to operate without costing the players an arm and a leg financially. (August 1, 2012) - The 2012 season ended with a bang as the Travelers went 6-1 in Glendale, Arizona to capture the team's fourth end-of-the-season World Series championship in the last eight years. The pitching trio of Dylan Fazekas (Red Oak), Austin King (Canyon, TX) and Matt Benedict (Tupelo) each threw complete games (Fazekas threw a no-hitter, while King and Benedict threw shutouts) in the final three games as the Travelers won the ProspectWire West World Series in the event's inaugural campaign. King and Benedict were tabbed as Co-MVPs of the event. The season-ending championship was the third overall for the 2012 squad, which also won the Ardmore Tournament to begin the season and kept the program's dominant run at Pueblo, Colorado going with the team's sixth title there in seven years. 2012 Season: Statistics | Recaps | Schedule & Results Jordy Mercer in the MLB 2005 Traveler alum breaks through with Pittsburgh 
(August 15, 2012) - Former Traveler and Taloga, Oklahoma native Jordy Mercer made his first Major League start Wednesday, May 30th, 2012 at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, PA. The 25-year-old shortstop went 1-for-4 in the game with seven assists on defense, including a highlight reel play on a ball hit off the foot of Pirates starter A.J. Burnett.Mercer, the son of Rick (1975 Traveler alum) and Tammy Mercer, hit his first big league homerun on August 8th off the Diamondbacks' Josh Collmenter. The solo shot proved to be the game-winning RBI. The 6-foot-3 former Oklahoma State standout was a three-year starter for the Travelers at shortstop from 2003-05 and is considered one of the greatest defensive players in the programs now 49-year history. He has played a spectacular shortstop while in Pittsburgh, tallying several web-gem-worthy plays on defense. Adding to the excitement of an already memorable 2012, Jordy and his wife Kasey are expecting their first child (a baby boy) later this month. Best wishes Kasey! (August 3, 2011) - The 2011 Travelers squad played fewer games than any other team in the program's 48-year history, but it didn't stop the club from causing damage across the country. The team's record of 40-4 resulted in the highest winning-percentage in team history (.909). It won four of the six major tournaments it played in, tallied a 22-game win streak and set a new record with wins against teams from 15 different states and one other country (Canada). How did it do it? 
By bludgeoning the competition with a vicious lineup.By any measure, the 2011 team was the greatest offensive machine the program has ever produced. It easily had the highest team batting average of all-time (.436) as well as the most runs scored per game (10.5), hits per game (11.9), doubles per game (2.98), homeruns per game (1.59) and easily bested the highest slugging percentage mark of all-time with a .759 mark (next closest was 2008's .702 mark). PHOTO: Traveler great Brendan McCurry >> Leading the charge was quite possibly the greatest "career" Traveler of all-time in Tupelo native Brendan McCurry, who batted .517 on the season with a team-leading 147 at-bats, 23 doubles, 17 homeruns and 84 RBI in just 44 games played. It ends a majestic Travelers career for McCurry who never missed a starting lineup in four consecutive seasons on the team, and actually played in five seasons overall (a few games in 2007). All told, Brendan played in a record 255 consecutive games as a Traveler. He amassed a career average of .436 in 767 at-bats, which included 334 hits, 264 runs scored, 94 doubles, 14 triples, 59 homeruns and 321 RBI. McCurry's talent was just as incredible on the mound, where he served as the team's ace and/or closer for the last three years. He finished 2011 with a record of 8-0 on the mound, to go with a 1.54 ERA. He pitched the squad to championship wins at Dallas, TX (Finish Line SW Championships) and Reno, NV (Sierra Nevada Classic). He allowed just 38 hits and struck out 68 in 50 innings of work overall, which included four saves. He also had one of the lowest WHIP's in the team's history at 1.14. Over his four seasons, the righthander went an amazing 27-3, while routinely starting or closing the biggest games on the schedule. McCurry wasn't the only 2011 Traveler making headlines. Anadarko native Tanner Dearman re-wrote the record books, obliterating the all-time batting average record with a .558 mark at the age of 17. Dearman -- quite possibly the fastest player in team history -- racked up 77 hits in 138 at-bats with 17 doubles, seven triples, six homers, 23 stolen bases and slugged at a .913 clip. While McCurry arguably is the greatest career Traveler of all-time and Dearman secured the highest single-season batting average of all-time, it was Derek Odell who burst onto the scene and proved he's in the discussion for most naturally talented Traveler of all-time. Odell, who hails from Canyon, TX, showed why he went on to become a freshman starter at powerhouse TCU with a monster season at the plate. In just 33 games played and 108 at-bats on the summer, Odell hit .537 (second highest avg. ever behind Dearman) with 16 homeruns (one per every 6.7 at-bats), 16 doubles and collected 77 RBI (2.3 per game) on the season, all while manning the shortstop position with grace and flair. He also set a Traveler record with the single highest slugging percentage of all-time at a ridiculous 1.185 (more than one base averaged ever at-bat). Rounding out what was the "Big Four" in the lineup was Berryhill native Clayton Green, who (like McCurry) capped a brilliant multi-year career with the Travelers. Green batted .496 with 14 doubles, eight homeruns and 53 RBI while also being the team's top defensive player in the outfield, the team's best baserunner and it's clear leader-by-example. In three years on the team, Clayton appeared in 147 games, amassing a .455 average in 400 at-bats with 173 runs scored, 182 hits, 41 doubles, 15 homeruns and 119 RBI. 
Other noteworthy performances in 2011 included newcomer Christian Thaxton (Duncan, OK) who manned the 5-hole of the lineup and hit .449 with eight homeruns and 44 RBI; Daniel Edwards (Verden, OK) and Hunter Stephens (Durant, OK) who each hit .404 on the season.PHOTO: Clayton Green (left) and Tyler Palmer goofing around in Indianapolis >> Also noteworthy was the end of another tremendous four-year Traveler career in El Reno's Tyler Palmer, who was a backbone of the team as the starting catcher the last three years. Palmer will go down on the short list of the greatest Traveler catchers ever. He caught 43 of the 44 games in 2011, while hitting .366 with 12 doubles, seven homeruns and 35 RBI. Outside of McCurry, the pitching was primarily led by the Texas pitching trio of Austin King (Canyon, TX), T.J. Looney (Canyon, TX) and Connor Cook (Amarillo, TX). The trio combined to go 19-1 on the season. Cook and Looney combined to win the Championship game of the Tony Andenucio tournament in Pueblo, CO while King got the win in the finals of the Finish Line Pastimes tournament at Wichita State. In between winning tournaments and driving vast amounts of miles, the 2011 team will also be remembered for its love of disc golf. At nearly every stop the guys found a disc golf course and did their best to wear out their throwing arms. Head coach Heath Ritchie netted the only hole-in-one of the season, a 250-foot ace on the seventh hole at a course in Abilene, TX. 2011 Season: Statistics | Recaps | Schedule & Results 2010 Season (59-7) Travelers take SoCal crown in San Diego

Travelers win USABF title in Southern California An already superb season finished with a bang as the Travelers completed 2010 with a brilliant performance in Southern California, winning the prestigious USABF World Series title in San Diego (Click here for final bracket). The USABF crown was the third for the 2010 squad, which also won championships at Pueblo, Colorado (Andenucio Tournament) and Reno, Nevada (Sierra Classic). Austin King twirled a complete game, two-hit masterpiece to give the Travelers the USABF crown over Seattle-based power, and previously unbeaten, Taylor Baseball. The 16-year-old southpaw struck out four and walked two in the 82-pitch effort, which came just hours after the Travelers won a 9am elimination contest. The Travelers scored all three runs in the third inning as Drew Ward singled and Dayne Parker walked in front of a two-out RBI single by Clayton Green and two-run double from Daniel Edwards. Ward, Green and Edwards all finished with two hits apiece. The Travelers finished off the eight-day tournament with a 9-2 record. They secured the two-seed by going 5-1 in pool play and followed up with a 4-1 mark in the CWS-style double-elimination bracket format. King had a phenomenal tournament, winning two games while allowing just one earned run in 14 innings of work over three games. Cale Elam (12 innings, two earned runs) and Dan Edwards also picked up two pitching wins. Brendan McCurry got the squad to the championship game with a complete game effort in a 4-1 win Saturday morning. He also had a save in the tournament, but it was his bat that did the most damage, pacing the offense with a team-high 19 hits, five homeruns and 18 RBI in the eight-day event. He batted .475 in the tournament. Dayne Parker and Elam also had hot bats, each tallying 13 RBI in the tournament while Charlie Curl knocked in 12 runs while scoring 14 and hitting .462 with three homeruns for the week. Parker shined in the field from his shortstop position, racking up a team-high 42 assists.
